into different subjects and context that works around your schedule?

Compass Quick Impact courses are designed for educators who want to jump right into using a specific tool. Courses are asynchronous, can be started and completed at anytime and each includes 2-4 hours of instruction.

These courses, curated by teachers for teachers, deliver impact and actionable outcomes if you have some experience with the tools or none at all.

In each course you will:

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Investigating Your Community with the Sustainability Compass

How can you help your students understand “what’s happening” in the world around them through the lens of systems thinking?

This short course equips you with the knowledge and tools to use the Sustainability Compass for engaging community investigations with students. Whether you’re planning a service learning project, facilitating experiential education, or exploring place-based learning, you’ll gain practical tools to spark systems thinking, critical thinking, and deeper community awareness.

This course content is relevant for all educators. We believe that the activities can be modified for use with any age range, but the majority of the activities would work best with secondary students.

CULTIVATING COMPASSION

Using Systems Thinking to Support Social Emotional Learning

What if systems thinking could help students become more compassionate?

This course explores how the Sustainability Compass can help students understand different perspectives, recognize the impact of their actions, and ask emotionally intelligent questions. Participants will gain practical tools to build empathy, self-awareness, and deeper connections with others through systems thinking.

This course content is relevant for all educators. We believe that the activities can be modified for use with any age range.

SYSTEMS THINKING FOR THE SDGs

Teaching the UN Global Goals Through a Systems Thinking Lens

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide all of us with a blueprint for building a more sustainable world- but where do we begin? And how can we, as educators, help our learners make sense of these immense challenges?

This self-directed course strengthens your understanding of the SDGs and provides practical activities to confidently engage learners with the Global Goals. Participants will also explore how systems thinking tools like the Sustainability Compass can help learners understand the interconnected nature of these big-picture issues.

This course content is relevant for all educators. We believe that the activities can be modified for use with learners Grade 3 through adults in formal and non-formal education contexts.

YOUNG SYSTEMS THINKERS

Fostering Sustainable Habits of Mind in Primary Aged Learners

How do we empower younger learners to think critically about the world around them?

This course helps primary educators confidently introduce big topics like sustainability by showing that children are natural systems thinkers. Using tools like the Sustainability Compass, you’ll learn how to nurture knowledge, skills, and sustainable habits of mind in young learners to help them thrive in a flourishing future.

This course is best suited for educators working with Pre-K through Grade 5 (age 11).
