DESCRIPTION:Are you looking to embed climate education in your curriculum? Do you want to empower your students to take civic action to address climate change? How can you be a leader of the climate education movement in your community? \nCompass Education is pleased to offer a three-part virtual Introduction to the Compass Tools workshop series this winter for educators across the Chesapeake Bay area on ‘Systems Thinking for Youth Climate Education and Civic Action.’ \n🗓️ Date: December 4 and 11\, January 8\n⏰ Time: 4-6 pm Eastern Time\n📍 Location: Zoom details will be sent by email after application approval\n🚨 Application deadline: December 4 \nThis highly interactive workshop series will introduce participants to the fundamentals of systems thinking and teach them to use the versatile systems thinking tools\, The Sustainability Compass and the Systems Iceberg\, to integrate sustainability and climate issues into their work. Participants will leave this series with a plan to use systems thinking to integrate climate education into their work or engage their students in civic action for sustainability. \nAny classroom educator or school administrator currently working in Maryland\, Virginia\, Pennsylvania\, Delaware\, or the District of Colombia is eligible to apply. We especially encourage educators working in public or government schools with limited access to professional learning funds to apply.  \nParticipants who complete all workshop requirements will receive: \n\n$50 stipend\n1:1 consultation with a Compass Facilitator\nFree recourses to integrate sustainability and systems into any curriculum and every class level\n\n  \nApply Here\n  \n  \nFacilitator\n \nNicole Swedlow is the Executive Director of Compass Education\, a global non-profit supporting education for sustainability through training in systems thinking practices. Outside of work\, she enjoys playing squash and being on the coast\, most recently sea kayaking. \n  \n  \n  \nGeraldine (Ged) Thomason\nAs an expat child\, Ged grew up in Zambia and Liberia. Her experiences there allowed her to consider different perspectives and sparked her love of the natural world. She always had a random collection of stones\, sticks\, feathers and seeds in her pockets and still does to this day. She loves to travel and became a travel agent so that she could continue to get to know the world. Later\, when her son was born and had some additional learning needs\, she discovered the inequalities in the education system. Disheartened by some teachers and encouraged by others\, she decided to become an educator. She wanted to become someone who could provide a safe\, loving\, equitable and inspiring space for any learner. As an international educator who has worked in the UK\, China\, Brunei\, Singapore\, France and now Germany\, she continues to work on this goal every day of the week. Coming from a sports-loving family\, he also played tennis in the summers and made the most of living on the coast by surfing whenever he could. Being involved in sports taught him the importance of being a team member\, the health benefits of being outside and of exercise\, and that we can always keep improving. His parents always taught him to help others and modelled daily acts of kindness that he tries to instill into his own children and the students he teaches. He believes in treating everyone with an equal amount of respect and to assume positive intentions. DESCRIPTION:This event is a virtual six-hour workshop for teachers at American School of Antananrivo\, Madagascar. \nAbout the Workshop \nThis flexible\, three-part program enables schools to efficiently and effectively introduce educators\, administrators and support staff to the fundamentals of sustainability and systems thinking. The process is designed to scaffold learners in systems processes through the introduction of two of the most important and useful systems thinking tools; the Sustainability Compass and Systems Iceberg. \nThis program is available for onsite (one-day) or virtual (six hours) with flexible delivery in one to three sessions formats.
