\nThe fourth \u2018Becoming a Compass School\u2019 workshop was held on the campus of Phuket International Academy Day School (PIADS), Phuket, Thailand on March 4-6, 2011. Nineteen educators, administrators and private sector participants from China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and The Netherlands participated in this three-day workshop to learn about the concept of sustainability, the role of schools in sustainable development, and the AtKisson Compass and ISIS Pyramid tools and methods.<\/p>\n

\"\"The primary aim of this workshop was to allow participants to experience, through hands-on exercises and games, how to effectively integrate sustainability principles, concepts and thinking skills into their curriculum and as a whole-school approach. Participants spent one full day using the Compass and ISIS Pyramid to address one global issue (tourism) and to develop indicators and strategies for making it sustainable for an island community like Phuket. The last day of the workshop was devoted to envisioning a sustainable school from the five Compass Portals:<\/p>\n

1) Leadership and Governance;<\/p>\n

2) Teaching and Learning;<\/p>\n

3) School Operations;<\/p>\n

4) Buildings and Grounds;<\/p>\n

5) Participation and Engagement with the Community<\/p>\n

and developing whole-school indicators from the four Sustainability Compass points: Nature<\/strong><\/span>, Economy<\/strong><\/span>, Society<\/strong> <\/span>and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/span>.
