class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I reflect on my journey, I never intentionally said, \u201cI will become a Compass Facilitator\u201d; it was more a product of experiential processes. If I break my journey down into steps over time, there are four distinct steps over a period of 8 years.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef7a7fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ef7a7fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Step 1<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d712df4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d712df4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I worked closely with my service learning coordinator at a previous school who is a Compass Facilitator. When working with student organizations I needed some frameworks or tools to go deeper into the areas and topics that define their organizations\u2019 actions. After a reflective conversation with the service learning coordinator, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Compass Iceberg<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was suggested as a tool to use with the students.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>The action\/result:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The student leaders started to reflect on the fact that they were always focused on the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Event<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and never dug into the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patterns, Systems and Mindset <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that were needed to grow the organization and connect to lasting change.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2072ca4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2072ca4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Step 2<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-769794d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"769794d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My current school has a Sustainability Strategic Initiative as one of its seven impact goals of the school&#8217;s Strategic Plan. One of the four long-term Sustainability Goals is to \u201cintegrate sustainability in our curriculum at all levels\u201d. After having some conversations with the administration on the \u201cHow,\u201d a few staff members decided to start micro-credentialing in a variety of PD around sustainability, starting with the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/compasseducation.org\/es\/compass-education-level-1-online-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Compass Level I Course<\/a>.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>The action\/result:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 The Sustainability <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compass Tool <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was embedded in the PYPX (Primary Years Program Exhibition) for all Grade 5 students. As there was a group that had finished the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/compasseducation.org\/es\/compass-education-level-1-online-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compass Level I<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> course and had some tools they were familiar with and were using, a small group took <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/compasseducation.org\/es\/compass-education-level-2-online-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compass Level 2 course<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to better understand another Compass tool, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VISIS Pyramid.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is a tool that brings systems thinking into a step-by-step process to create sustainable action. For the final course project, we unpacked \u201cExplore creative scheduling options to allow students and teachers the time necessary to promote student agency\u201d which was a Priority Action in the school&#8217;s Strategic Impacts under Personalized Learning.<\/span><\/p><p><b>The action\/result:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Our smaller school campus rebuilt their schedule including a Flex Day; one day out of an 8-day cycle. Compass Education reaches out to all who completed their Level 2 course with the opportunity to become a facilitator. At this point, I found that \u201cinformation was responsibility\u201d. I could see first-hand the impact of the tools and wanted to personally take action to join the \u201cGlobal Movement of educators and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">agentes de cambio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who believe that a flourishing, sustainable world begins with our students and school\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(taken from <a href=\"https:\/\/compasseducation.org\/es\/about-compass-education-good-teaching-and-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Compass Education Mission<\/a>)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a Facilitator.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>The action\/result:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I completed my facilitator training as a shadow facilitator at ISB (International School Basel) and a group from our school is going to introduce some Compass tools at AGIS (Association of German International Schools) in the Spring of 2023.
